"In All My Wildest Dreams" by Kemang Wa Lehulere
Art Institute of Chicago
This was an interesting mixed media exhibit at the Art Institute of Chicago that involved paintings, carvings, sculptures, as well as film and audio elements.
Yale University Art Gallery
I was in New England over spring break to look at colleges and one of the colleges I visited was Yale University in New Haven, CT. We stopped by the Yale University Art Gallery and saw collections of work ranging from ancient Greco-Roman statues to Marcel Duchamp and Wassily Kandinsky. One of the most stunning collections was Lumia, an exhibit of light-based contraptions by Thomas Wilfred. Not only were the pieces, the design sketches, and the plans for a 'Temple of Light' amazing, but the design of the exhibit was stunning as well. Some of the pieces only ran at designated times for specific intervals because of their age.
Rhode Island School of Design Museum
The last college I visited over spring break was the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI, and as a part of the tour we were able to get into the museum for free. It had a variety of works from Picasso to Van Gogh in a mix of modernist sculpture and impressionism/post-impressionism.
